Educational Applications
Each of these educational applications listed below will be presented and discussed throughout the Resource Guide:
- Edmodo: Edmodo is a classroom management Web 2.0 tool that allows for class collaboration and communication. With a user-friendly interface similar to Facebook, teachers can post assignments and grades, students can engage in diverse learning communities, and parents can view what is being taught though parental access.
- EverNote: EverNote is an application that allows individuals to take online notes. Students can take notes on their mobile devices, collaborate and share notes with classmates, or even add to them next class.
- Kahoot: Kahoot is a game-based learning platform that allows students to compete against one another while answering a variety of content-specific questions. This interactive application also allows teachers to discover which questions and topics students are having the most difficulty with as there are options to review the number of missed questions, and more specifically who missed what.
- Kidblog: Kidblog is a student-driven application that encourages critical thinking and collaboration by allowing students to create bogs, publish posts and participate in classroom discussions. Kidblog also includes a teacher administrative tool-set for monitoring, reviewing, and deleting student-posted information.
- PicSay: PicSay allows students to label and take pictures with the use of their mobile devices. Students have the opportunity to search for content-specific images and graphics, and label their examples with appropriate titles and information.
- QR Codes: QR Codes are Internet short-cuts that can be scanned with the use of a mobile device. Students can scan a QR code that contains a website address to review or complete homework assignments. QR codes can contain multiple web addresses and are effective tools to ensure that students are viewing the appropriate material and webpages.
- Quia: Quia is an educational application that allows teachers to create online games, activities, and assessments. Quia allows real-time tracking of student progress and differentiated instruction.
- Socrative: Socrative offers a variety of engaging applications for students that include exit slips, poll questions, online quizzes, and games. Educators can customize each of these options to fit their daily lessons and objectives.
